The 3rd gear is short, the 4th gear is extra short, which prevents serious power holes when accelerating or upshifting. Changing the gear ratio of your input shaft is essential when it comes to tuning your gearbox. Shifting characteristics will be improved, and overall performance (acceleration / top speed) will be affected, always depending on what other engine components you have on your Vespa.
