Gilera Runner - General information
With the Runner, Gilera developed a scooter with a distinctive design. Depending on the year of manufacture, it was offered from 50cc to 200cc, initially with 2-stroke engines and later with 4-stroke engines. Thanks to a central reinforcement strut, it had a significantly stiffer chassis than most scooters. There is no easy step-through typical of many scooters, as you have to swing your leg over to get on, but in return you get very precise and sporty handling.
These are the 50cc models from 2005 onwards, which run under the name Runner SP 50.
ATTENTION: There was already an SP version before 2005, which is similar to the standard model but has a disc brake at the rear wheel.
Gilera Runner 50 SP - Engine
The engine is a liquid-cooled Piaggio single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a long engine block. This engine is considered to be very powerful and is often used as the basis for racing vehicles. Thanks to liquid cooling, it always operates at the optimum temperature range to deliver consistent power. The mixture is prepared via a carburetor. The scooter is started electrically or by kickstarter.
Naturally, we stock all parts for maintenance, repair or tuning, such as cylinders, crankshafts, exhausts, CVTs, clutches and ignition systems.
Gilera Runner SP 50 - Suspension
At the front, suspension is handled by an upside down fork, while a monoshock is used at the rear. Powerful disc brakes are fitted at both the front and rear to stop the machine effectively. The 14- and 13-inch wheels offer very good stability.
The great strength of the Runner lies in its frame construction. As already mentioned, there is a double reinforcement bar between the rear frame tubes and the steering column. This increased rigidity prevents frame flex under heavy braking and allows for a much more sporty riding style.
This is a major advantage for racing use, as the frame provides a very solid base for track applications.
In our online store you will find parts for customizing such as fairings, headlights and rear lights as well as components for maintenance such as brakes, bearings, tires and suspension parts.
