Cylinder kits for maxi scooters

Most maxi scooters are equipped with 4-stroke engines. Therefore, the cylinder head and its components have a greater impact on performance than the cylinder itself. However, there are also models with 2-stroke engines.

In our online shop, we carry cylinders for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. For 2-stroke engines, there are cylinders in OEM quality as well as performance-oriented sport cylinders. For 4-stroke engines, we have replacement cylinders and “big bore” cylinders with increased displacement.

Our wide range covers the most popular models: Piaggio MP3, Yamaha TMax and XMax, Vespa GTS, Honda Forza, Suzuki Burgman, BMW C 400 and many other models.

Ready-to-install cylinder kits

With a few exceptions, our cylinder kits are supplied complete with all parts required for installation:

  • Piston and piston rings
  • Piston pin and circlips
  • Gasket set (head gasket, base gasket, exhaust)
  • Cylinder head for 2-stroke models (in most cases)

All spare parts are also available individually for specific repairs.

ATTENTION: Some 4-stroke cylinders can only be installed with specific cylinder heads!

Restoration, repair and tuning of maxi scooters

For restorations and tuning projects, well-known brands are available such as Stage6, Polini, Malossi, Top Performance, Airsal (for increased performance) or Motoforce (for reliable restorations at low costs).

Maxi scooter tuning

When tuning a 2-stroke scooter, several components need to be upgraded depending on the objective.

The cylinder is the central element in any performance upgrades. Depending on the setup (number and shape of transfer ports, displacement, compression), a matching exhaust and a carburetor with the appropriate diameter should be selected. A reinforced crankshaft is also recommended. A well-matched setup ensures maximum performance with high reliability.

For 4-stroke engines, increasing displacement mainly requires adjustment of the carburetor or fuel injection. An open exhaust without a catalytic converter can also be useful.

⇒ Important:

2-stroke: Aluminum cylinders must be installed while respecting the squish clearance, i.e. the distance between piston and cylinder head at top dead center, according to manufacturer specifications for maximum reliability.

4-stroke: The cylinder itself is simple in design, but many components must be removed. Pay attention to valve timing and the position of the piston rings.

The choice of oil for the mixture should match the intended use: street, track, off-road.

ATTENTION! Any tuning modification requires carburetor adjustment with jets. Otherwise, damage may occur.

FAQ — Frequently asked questions about cylinders for maxi scooters

⇒ When should the piston be replaced?

If the engine starts poorly or loses power, it is time. However, service life depends on the cylinder type. With an OEM cylinder, around 10,000 km is possible, significantly more with 4-stroke engines. At higher RPM and under intensive use, the interval can be reduced to around 10 hours for racing engines.

⇒ 1-ring piston or 2-ring piston?

It depends on the goal: maximum performance → one ring. Reliable compromise: two rings. However, this rule is not absolute. Some cylinders also deliver very good performance with two rings.

⇒ Aluminum or cast iron?

Cast iron generally reacts less sensitively to temperature changes than aluminum and is therefore recommended for daily use, as less carburetor adjustment is required. For racing use, aluminum is advantageous: precise carburetor tuning is required, but heat dissipation is better and performance remains stable.
