Puch - General Information

The Puch factories, founded in 1899 by Johann Puch, were an Austrian company that produced bicycles, mopeds, combustion engines, motorcycles, and automobiles. The term "moped" gained significance after World War II according to traffic regulations: a vehicle that does not require a driving license, no registration card, affordable insurance, and a limited maximum speed. Puch produced various models between 1969 and 1995, the most famous being the Puch Condor and the Puch X30 (as manufactured for Switzerland in 1962, an immediate precursor of the maxi, whose construction was completely different from its predecessor, the MS 50).

Its predecessor, the MS 50 from 1954, represented a successful engineering step between the bicycle with auxiliary engine and the motorcycle. The Puch Maxi models were all equipped with automatic or two-speed transmissions. There are about twenty models, some rare but appreciated, such as the Puch Maxi Nostalgie (built exclusively in 1976), the Puch Maxi Super S (white paint, headlamp mask), the Puch Maxi Turbo Sport (4-speed gearbox), or the Puch Maxi Casablanca (produced only between 1972 and 1973). Later, models like the Puch Monza or the Puch Oldtimer were added. In 1987, all brand rights were sold to Piaggio, marking the beginning of the end. The factories were closed, and production continued under Piaggio until 1995, when it was also discontinued.
