Description

CVT weights for scooters and maxiscooters

Pack of HQ 6 variator weights, available the in different sizes: 15x12mm, 16x13mm, 17x12mm and 19x15,5mm.

How can you tell that the Roller weights are worn?

There are several signs that the variator weights need to be replaced:

  • Loss of power or poorer acceleration.
  • Unusual engine noise.
  • Excessive vibration or jerking when accelerating.

Otherwise, the easiest way to check for roller wear is to visually inspect them. To do this, you'll need to remove the variator cover, use a piston stopper, and disassemble the CVT. Worn rollers are either flattened or have grooves or indentations. For optimal operation, the weights must be perfectly round and smooth.

We recommend checking the condition of the rollers every 5,000 kilometers.

CVT Weights

CVT roller weights, also called variator weights, play an essential role in the performance of scooters, maxiscooters and mopeds with CVT transmissions.

The CVT is responsible for transmitting engine power to the rear wheel of the scooter. It consists of several components, including the variator rollers. These roller weights, which are usually made of plastic or metal, sit in special tracks in the variator. Weight and diameter can vary depending on the scooter model and manufacturer.

Lighter or heavier weights?

The right weights can noticeably improve the performance of your scooter. The weight of roller weights has a direct effect on acceleration and top speed. Basically, lighter rollers lead to improved acceleration, while heavier rollers increase top speed. However, if the rollers are too light they may improve acceleration too much at the expense of speed. On the other hand, CVT rollers that are too heavy can improve speed while severely compromising acceleration.

To experiment a bit with different weights and find the best balance, we recommend getting a variator tuning kit with different weights. We also recommend buying a piston stopper or a CVT blocking tool so you can quickly disassemble and reassemble the variator.

Achtung beim Kauf!
