Malossi secondary gear 13/48 piaggio from 1998
This Malossi secondary gear set (13/48) fits all Piaggio 2-stroke engines from year 1998 onwards. The set includes a 17.7 mm shaft with a smooth end (17 mm diameter).
A longer gear ratio allows the engine to transfer its power more effectively — but only if the engine provides enough performance to handle it. On heavily tuned setups, this kind of gearing delivers a clear advantage. It's not recommended for use with stock engines.
Installation Note:
The original large gear must be pressed onto the Malossi secondary shaft. This requires special tools and/or a hydraulic press.
We can offer you gearboxes from Stage6 that don't require pressing.
Scooter gearbox
The transmission of scooters and some mopeds is located in a case behind the clutch and torque driver and has the function of reducing rpm and ultimately driving the wheel axle.
The transmission of a scooter has a direct influence on top speed. If the engine develops enough power and torque at low rpm, you can choose a longer gear ratio to achieve a higher top speed without any noticeable loss in acceleration.
Please note: if you don't have a press, better choose pre-assembled gears!
