When to replace a piston?
A motocross piston must be replaced regularly. To be sure to replace it at the right time, it is best to always refer to your motorcycle's user manual.
If you don't have one and can't find it, you should know that it varies according to the use (motocross, enduro, sand only, etc...), the level of the rider (a good rider is a good rider) and the type of bike.), the level of the rider (a beginner doesn't use the engine like an elite rider) and the engine capacity (the more the engine is able to take turns, the more the replacement will have to be frequent: for example, in motocross, the piston of a 125 will be replaced more often than the one of a 250 with equivalent rider and use).

How to choose a piston?
Choosing a piston depends largely on the cylinder! If the cylinder generally wears out more slowly, it wears out all the same. The piston-cylinder assembly must therefore always be in perfect harmony. To do this, you must be equipped with tools to measure the cylinder of your motorcycle. It will then be necessary to respect the dimension of play cylinder piston of origin, for example:
- New motorcycle:
- Cylinder bore = 54 mm
- Piston bore in standard dimension (dimension A) = 53,95 mm
- Dimension to be respected: 54 - 53,95 = 0,05 mm
- After several hours of operation:
- Measured cylinder bore = 54.01 mm
- Piston bore to be selected = 54.01 - 0.05 = 53.96 mm
- In order to respect the clearance, we will choose a dimension B
Several possibilities are still available to you, since there are forged or cast pistons, bi-segment or mono ring etc... Our advice? If you don't have any particular skills in engine preparation, always choose the same type of piston as the original one and just make sure you respect the rating!

Wann Muss der Kolben ausgetauscht werden?

Lebensdauer des Kolbens verlängern
Um die Lebensdauer des Kolbens zu verlängern und den Verschleiß des Zylinders zu verringern, wird empfohlen, die Kolbenringe abwechselnd zu ersetzen. Diese Methode maximiert die Lebensdauer des Kolbens und verbessert die Leistung des Motors.
Es ist wichtig, dass ihr Zylinderdichtungen und die Kolbensicherungsringe bei jeder Demontage austauscht. Solltet ihr das nicht tun, kann das zu Öllecks und Motorschäden führen.
