The micrometer is a measuring tool for setting the ignition timing and is very easy to use: One turn corresponds to a lowering by 1 mm.

Setting the ignition timing

You can control the ignition timing by adjusting the ignition. The top dead center (TDC) of the piston can be measured by using a micrometer. The point at which the spark plug explodes depends on the height of the piston. Many tuning ignitions require a precise setting in order to function at all.

CAUTION: An incorrectly set ignition can lead to a loss of power and in some cases even to complete failure!
