We have bought our own Ammerschläger P4 dyno already in 1996. Ever since then we have been checking all parts there are and a variety of combinations in terms of performance. Only by doing that we know what we are talking about when it comes to the performance potential of the tuning parts there are. We're not prepared to trust makers quotes or imaginary tuning results.

Performance is measured on the rearwheel according to the DIN/EU norm, for bikes with a manual clutch we can also measure the loss of power between the crankshaft and the rearwheel. With scooters with an automatic gearbox this is not so easy to make, experience has taught us though that power at the rear wheel is about 20-30% down on power on the crankshaft.Powere figures we quote are alway rear wheel figures, most manufacturers of scooters quote power as measured on the crankshaft. Don't be surprised if a standard Speedfight only makes 3,6 Bhp on our dyno while Peugeot quotes 4,9 Bhp.

The P4 dyno measures power at the rearwheel, apart from that it also collect climate data such as air-pressure, temperature and humidity. Based on these parameter the software calculates a correcting factor which goes into the calculation of the actual figure. The whole dyno is designed to pack up so as to be able to take it to scooter rallies for on spot tests.

In October 2002 we have upgraded to the P4 laboratory version. With the new software and technology we can now make even more accurate assesments of the setting up of the vario. The old measurements could not be importet into the new system though. In order to get as many test results as possible we have bought a Peugeot Speedfight LC, an MBK Nitro and an Piaggio NRG mc3 just to be tested in our workshop. As soon as we get fresh results we will keep you posted.

Interested in checking the results of your tuning on the dyno? if so check out the website of Amerschläger. There you will find a list of their customers, surely there will be one in your neighbourhood.
